Come and dance!

taking their hands and pulling them onto the dance floor.

Night had fallen and the moon was high along with the stars in the sky. They glittered against their black canvas beautifully, invitingly, the lights of other worlds glimmering happily, somewhere out in the universe. A reassurance that they were still there, still present, said to be stars but truly and really were something else entirely. The night was beautiful and the air was crisp, clean, and salty, and the ocean hummed pleasantly as it lapped at the land, the sand, coming close and then pulling away playfully.

And there she sat on a log with her toes digging into the sand and her knees pulled close to her chest, the wind rustling her hair and brushing against her face, just as playful as the ocean with the sand. Atop her legs her hands clenched and unclenched as her mind tried to comprehend all of the things that she was feeling, the fact that her senses were becoming more and more overwhelmed by everything around her, senses that she had not used in ages—

Because she had not been real in ages.

Never had been real, never should have existed. Yet there she sat, existence and solid and able to feel and hear and smell and taste everything for herself, experience it all, and it was nice… and sad. No longer was everything muted and dull as she resided in the heart of another, and maybe that was just why she was sad.

In Kairi’s heart, she never felt alone.

Footsteps tread over the sand somewhere behind her and she did not listen to them closely, nor did she look when a presence appeared by her side and sat down beside her on the log. The blonde could hear shoes being toed off and a sigh sounding through the air and out of the corner of her eye she could see a flash of red, not that she needed that to know who it was to begin with. No longer was she connected to Kairi so deeply, but Naminé was sure that in one way or another, they were still halves of each other. Literal soul mates.

Together they sat in silence, and a small part of her was glad for it. The silence and the company, both of them soothing her as she breathed gently and wiggled her toes in the sand feeling the grains press in between her toes. Everything was peaceful, quiet… and all too real.

Suddenly the redheaded girl stood up and the Nobody (former Nobody?) finally looked up at her questioningly, and saw the determined look on her face, the set of her jaw, the hard line of her mouth. All of that relaxed moments later as the Princess of Heart turned to her with a soft smile and offered a hand to her, without much explanation, and Naminé stared at it blankly before taking it hesitantly. Out of the few people she knew, Kairi was one of the fewer that she trusted wholly, and she allowed herself to be pulled up. Allowed herself to be led down to where the ocean met the sand. Allowed herself to be pivoted around a still smiling Kairi and to be pulled close suddenly and then pushed far away and then let go.

Dumbfounded she stared as the redhead let out a laugh and spun around, legs kicking at the cool water and head thrown back, arms out, as she moved and twisted and—

                                                                        Was free.

It did not take a genius to know what the young woman wanted from her and after a few moments, long moments that seemed to stretch as she watched the person whose heart she resided in for such a long him, a slow smile spread across her face and she laughed softly, too amused not to. Silly, it was all so silly, everything was silly—the fact that she was her own person with her own heart, could exist without Kairi, was still a half but not half of a person, was complete and wholly herself, that the redhead was still there with her and dancing under the light of the moon with an open expression on her face and a smile on her lips.

                                                               And Naminé danced with her.
