Sits down besides and rests head on table. "I'm just going to sit here for a little bit."

    Why yes, come in.
        Darling little china doll,
Your eyes don’t glimmer quite right
                Are you broken at all?

He greeted her arrival with the slightest turn of the head, guard raised in fear of it being a stranger. He soon relaxed, though. Familiar tresses of yellow sprawled out on the desk in front of him, followed by a voice that seemed exasperated, for sure. Tired of whatever the day had decided to bring. He understood that, he supposed, and silently raised his bifocals back onto the appropriate spot of the bridge of his nose. It wasn’t like his princess to seem down.

But motions were clear and evident. She wanted to rest, a desire not lost upon him. He stood, briefly, to unclip the red fabric from his shoulders and carefully draped it over her hunched form. It clashed terribly with the bright white of her dress, but it was all he had to offer at the present moment. Hand outstretched to the back of his chair again as he sat back down, but did not pick his place back up in his book quite yet.

Ace took a few seconds before he eventually complied with the thought, uncomfortable with touching others and unsure of personal boundaries. With the arm closest to her outstretched, his palm landed just on the side of her head and rocked slowly back and forth. She was probably too exhausted to tell him no or to swat his hand away, but he kept his touch brief just in case.

    ▍ “It’ll be okay.
         Fool’s words.
He hadn’t the faintest clue of such.

It seemed correct to say, though, and even if he never seemed like an optimist, he did believe it. With a brief smile and a light pat atop her shoulder, his hand returned to the text in front of him. He’d ask later what was wrong, but for now he’d be an idle figure with ears. If she spoke, he’d listen. If not, he’d be there. It was how it had always been. Comfortable silence.

“Stay as long as you like.

Maybe I’ll find some glue,
Or perhaps it will be you
and those cracks will be filled
               and eyes reshined
and you’ll be my darling little china doll
 Again.
