will tell you something as a child.

”—You’re not much taller than me!”

A shrewd comment. Many times she had been told to be more careful about what she said aloud because, as some adults told her, she had a knack for blunt and total honesty and could sometimes say hurtful words. But the words had simply slipped out without her truly realizing it and she couldn’t help but smile because it was absolutely true, and she was happy because of that.

So many people were so much taller than her because she was small for her age, because she was short and slight and all adults towered over her and she was honestly quite afraid of them. All of them, because they were so much bigger than her, but this person was probably an adult—or at least an adult compared to her—and he wasn’t so much bigger than her, so she wasn’t nearly as afraid of him. Which was probably why she hadn’t felt even the slightest apprehensive over the idea of approaching him and tugging on his jacket.

Stranger danger and all that but she admired his golden yellow hair and the metal arm that he seemed to have that really was very interesting and didn’t pay much mind to the fact that his face was reddening and it looked like he was very angry. Before she had seen people angry, of course she had, adults were always angry, so by the time that she noticed she did the only thing that she knew what to do when people were angry.

                                             The blonde hugged him.

How silly, she had never really been a fan of physical contact unless it was absolutely necessary, but that was okay, because there were times when she didn’t mind hugging some people. And he was close to her size, though not close enough that she could reach his long hair or his shoulders, but still short enough that she was not afraid that he’d step on her or crush her if he fell. What a nice feeling it was, to stand besides someone who was very nearly an adult and not be afraid.

”It’s nice that you’re not very tall.”
